Barbatia candida: Elongated quadrangular, longer posteriorly, thin-walled, white to beige with brown periostracum, with radial ribs crossing commarginal ridges forming beads (strongest posteriorly) and narrow byssal gape; interior white, margin smooth, cardinal area narrow, hinge line straight, distal teeth nearly parallel to hinge line. North Carolina to Florida, Bermuda, Bahamas, West Indies, Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Central America, South America (to Brazil). Length 50 mm (to 54 mm). Formerly in Barbatia. Compare Fugleria tenera, which is generally more delicate and has a denticulate interior shell margin.

Cucullaearca candida (Helbling, 1779) Distribution: North Carolina to Texas; Brazil. Size: 38 to 80 mm (1½ to 3½ in). White Bearded Ark Description: Color uniformly white; shape oblique, somewhat rectangular; sculpture of numerous, compact, modular radiating ribs with regularly spaced knobs on adjacent ribs, giving beaded appearance; anterior end rounded, posterior end flared; distinct ridge from umbo to posterior ventral angle; hinge long, straight, and narrow with oblique teeth inclined toward central area. Habitat: Beyond low-tide line on hard substrates; epifaunal byssal nestler. Entire Texas coast from below tide line to a depth of about 101 m (330 ft). Remarks: Found alive at SPI.
