Arene tricarinata (Stearns, 1872) Gem Cyclostreme
Distribution: North Carolina, Florida, Texas; Brazil. Size: 2 to 3 mm.
Description: Color whitish with reddish-brown maculations on fresh shells, occasionally white; shell top shaped; sculpture of convex whorls, spiral sculpture of nodulose cords on whorls; 3 spiral cords on body whorl, shoulder of body whorl with 1 spiral cord, periphery of body whorl squarish with 1 spiral cord in middle and 1 more spiral cord on bottom or periphery of base; suture narrowly channeled; axial sculpture of minute, crowded axial threads found throughout surface of shell; base of shell with wavy, radial, incised lines; spire somewhat raised; umbilicus subcircular, deep, and bordered by carinae.
Habitat: Calcareous environments. Depth range 0 to 183 m (600 ft). Remarks: Reported off the Texas coast at the FGB at depths from 22 to 50 m (72 to 168 ft). See Lipka (1974); Rehder (1981).
