Arene cruentata (Mühlfeld, 1824) Star Cyclostreme
Distribution: Florida, Texas, Gulf of Mexico; West Indies. Size: 6 to 16 mm.
Description: Color usually ashy white to cream, rarely with red-brown blotches on outer surface, inner surface white; top shaped; 4 to 5 angular whorls with triangular hollow whorls at anterior edges; minor row of smaller star-shaped spiral spines above the major row of larger star-shaped spiral spines; aperture subcircular, not as round as in other turbinids and glassy in fresh shells; umbilicus small, round, glossy, deep, and bordered by 3 spiral cords when not worn.
Habitat: Outer banks of Texas at depths from 22 to 113 m (72 to 377
ft). Depth range 0 to 115 m (380 ft).
