This species is variable in outline, generally either pupoid or elongate-ovato one. Shell solid, whorls not much convex, suture incised. Aperture circular in form, peristome simple and continuous, sometimes callous, with external varix. Surface smooth, crossed by fine growth striae only. Protoconch obtuse and made by about two whorls of spiral crossed spirally by small dimples circular, aligned. Usually uniform dark brown in colour but there can be found either specimens or populations with bands lighter in colour. Operculum corneous, oval in form. This species is also known as Amphithalamus punctulum. Some varieties such as: turrita, gilva, flavida, albina are included in the variability field of this species. Average measures of adult specimens are around 1.5 mm in height.

Habitat: it lives on algae (Cystoseira) in the meso and infralittoral zones. Distribution: it can be found all over the Mediterranean. Quite common.
