Shell very similar to that of A. abyssicola but the costae and outer lip are orthocline and the diameter of the larval shell exceeds 400 yxm. Whorls without peripheral flattening.
The shell is semitransparent and has about five whorls. The numbers of costae and of spiral ridges are so similar to those of A. abyssicola that they cannot be used as diagnostic features. White or cream. Up to 3.5 mm high, 2mm broad; last whorl occupies 66% of shell height, aperture 40%.
A. subsoluta can usually be separated from A. abyssicola on the basis of the direction in which costae and outer lip lie, the angle' of the latter to the shell axis in particular being very different in the two species. A. subsoluta is not only rare in the fauna of the British Isles but it is also restricted in distribution, all records being from the neighbourhood of the Isles of Scilly. There the animals were collected from muddy bottoms at depths of about 200 m. Elsewhere it has been found between the Mediterranean and the north of Norway. Details of its reproduction are not known.

There are no great problems with the identification of A. subsoluta, the somewhat similar A. testae has almost two strongly sculptured whorls in the protoconch, A. subsoluta has 1.5 whorls with a spiral striation that just barely can be seen with a stereomicroscope (in perfect specimens).
