Species of easy determination with a shell variable in colour, solidity and sculpture. Ovato, oblong and a little bit stretched in form, whorls either not much convex or flat-sided, suture not much deep. Longitudinal and transverse sculpture originates an aligned series of small tubercles alternate with small grooves covering the whole teleconch. Its mouth is roundish in form, external lip thickened and varicose with an internal denticulation, umbilicus missing. Protoconch with planktotrophic development. Quite variable in colour: from specimens either brown or uniform beige in colour to specimens with spiral streaks darker in colour at the base and below suture. Outline slimmer, sculpture of teleconch closer, as well as a different protoconch characterize this species from its similar ones: A. cimex and A. mamillata. Average measures of adult specimens reach 4-4.5 mm in height.

Habitat: it lives in the infralittoral zone on stiff substrata in the presence of algae.
