Holotype (23.1mm high x 18.5mm wide, including axial ridges) deposited at Paris National Museum of Natural History, France with Registration No: MNHN-IM-2000- 38133.
Other material: Paratype 1 (25.0mm high) in Dr Thach collection. All types from type locality.
Diagnosis: The new species is characterized by very rough surface, narrow and pointed spire, rounded and widely-spaced axial ribs, many holes at sutures. Description: Shell small (with height range 23.1-25.0 mm of collected specimens), trochidform and solid. Spire tall and straight-sided, sutures deep. Body whorl very rough and not inflated. Shell width 81.0% of height and aperture height 25.5% of shell height, 54.0% of shell width (see Table 16). Sculpture consists of widely-spaced axial ridges and spiral riblets at terminal part of body whorl; a prominent spiral ridge extending transversely at body whorl and crossed by short axial riblets. Aperture slightly circular in outline and nacreous, outer lip thick. Base very flat with broad spiral ribs and fine radial grooves.. Columella curved and calloused, umbilicus closed. Color pinkish white.

The new species differs mainly from Astralium rhodostomum (Lamarck, 1822) from Vietnam in (1) axial ridges less numerous, more inflated and not sculptured with narrow axial ribs, (2) no ribs at intersspace of axial ridges, (3) more slender in shape, (4) many holes at sutures, (5) spire whorls not overhanging, (6) different callus bordering the umbilicus, (7) spiral ribs at basal side less granulose, (8) smaller adult size, (9) shell height not equal to shell width as written in original description.The new species is clearly distinctive from Astralium rhodostomum (Lamarck, 1822) illustrated in WoRMS Photogallery No 101054.

Type locality: Nha Trang area, Khanh Hoa Province, Central Vietnam.
Habitat: Among rocks at 2-15m.
