Shell sinistral; whorls fewer (up to 5) and more elongate than in P. fontana and spire more evenly tapering; aperture with similarly placed denticles, but with a more strongly flaring lip; umbilicus very narrow. Translucent, buff to pale brown, apertural rim and teeth white. Length up to 3.0 mm.
Widely distributed in southern Africa from the Cape to Lesotho, Namibia and Botswana, extending also into Zambia; from semi-desert in the west to moister coastal regions in the eastern Cape; from sea level to 1,700 m (SW Lesotho). However, in our region it has only been recorded once, more than 50 years ago, from a single locality in the Thukela Basin. Its present occurrence in the region requires confirmation.
