Shell small, but relatively large for the group and elongate; comprising 5-6 strongly convex whorls; spire more gently tapering than in other pupillids; aperture with a single triangular, peg-like tooth on parietal wall, close to its junction with outer lip; tooth separated from outer lip by narrow slot; edge of aperture surrounded by flange-like lip except in parietal region; no teeth inside outer lip; sculptured by microscopic, curved, axial threads; umbilicus open, appearing pinched-in internally. Buff to orange-brown, tooth and apertural flange whitish. Length up to 6.0 mm, but usually less than 5.0 mm. Head-foot black.
Widely distributed in the drier parts of southern Africa from Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe and southern Mozambique to the eastern Cape (Karoo). Evidently not common in our region, where it has been found only in the Thukela Valley near Kranskop, and Umfolozi and Mkhuze Came Reserves (a single old record from Pietermaritzburg requires confirmation); lives in sheltered spots under logs, fallen aloes and large stones, often in colonies; occasionally found in cracks in bark of trees. The epiphragm produced during dormant periods characteristically has grains of soil and sand attached to it.
