Although this species was known to collectors for years, it was not until 1994 that it was properly described. The shell reaches a maximum size of at least 25mm and has been found in the Bahamas, Puerto Rico and Cuba. It is a shallow water species. While the costae are thick and low on the early whorls, on the later whorls, they are thin, blade-like and erect. The shell is rather inflated with up to 8 teleoconch whorls. The number of costae per whorl ranges from 14 to about 20. The sutures are deep and the umbilicus is closed. The aperture is oval. The color ranges from pale tan to white. The operculum is pale amber.
