Eulimostraca subcarinata (d'Orbigny, 1841) Brown-line Eulima
Distribution: North Carolina to Florida, Texas; West Indies. Size: 3 mm.
Description: Color in fresh specimens glossy brown with a darker brown band at the suture; shape conic; sculpture polished, smooth; spire ovate; postnuclear whorls flat sided and conic; aperture semicircular to subquadrate.
Habitat: Rare in bays; usually offshore in sand bottoms. In Texas found offshore Freeport. Depth range 0 to 192 m (630 ft).
Remarks: Similar to Microeulima hemphillii in distribution and habitat; however, E. subcarinata rarely enters the bay systems. See Lyons (1978a); Ode (1989a). Synonyms: Eulima subcarinata d'Orbigny, 1841; Melanella subcarinata (d'Orbigny, 1841).
