Popis

Antillophos liui: Shell small for genus. Ground colour white with 2 vague brown bands on spire whorl and 3 on last adult whorl, occasionally with brown patches below suture. Shell fusiform in shape, spire about 3/5 total shell length. Protoconch large, 650 µm in length, apex eroded, of about 3.5 whorls, with 1 strong keel on the second whorl that becomes double on sub-sequent whorl and triple on last half whorl. Transition to teleoconch with 5 oblique, curved axial riblets. Teleo¬conch of 5 broad and convex whorls sculptured with axial ribs and flattened, smooth spiral cords. Dominant pri¬mary spiral cords forming white knobs on axial ribs. On upper part of spire whorls, 1—3 secondary spiral cords in interspaces, and on lower part spiral cords flat and wide separated by fine grooves. Upper part of last adult whorl with same sculpture pattern as spire whorls, at shell base interspaces between primary spiral cords with 1—2 secondary spiral cords. Axial ribs thin with broad interspaces. Body whorl with 19 axial ribs and 15 primary spiral cords. Aperture small, elongate-ovate. Outer lip with 17 lirae internally. Columella with 2 strong abapical folds and 1 strong adapical tooth. Siphonal canal open and short. Holotype. East China Sea, off Wenling City, Zhejiang Province, China, approximately 28°00' N 122°00' E, 130 m, on gravel and sandy bottom, dd, coll. S.Q. Zhang, July 2013
Zhang S.-Q. [Shu-Qian] & Zhang S.-P. [Su-Ping]. (2015). The genus Antillophos Woodring, 1928 (Gastropoda: Buccinidae) from the China seas, with description of a new species.

Antillophos liui: Antillophos liui n. sp. is characterised by fusiform shape in combination with flattened, smooth spiral cords in the axial interspaces. Dominant spiral cords form distinctive white knobs on axial ribs. Among Antillophos species, A. liui n. sp. most closely resembles A. hastilis Fraussen & Poppe, 2005, A. varicosus (Gould, 1849) and A. idyllium Fraussen & Poppe, 2005 in spiral colour pattern. However, A. hastilis has a protoconch with 2 keels from second whorl and spiral cords are usually convex and angulated in the axial interspaces, towards the penultimate whorl the spiral cords become angulate, the abapical slope broader and gently rising, giving the shell a serrated outline; while A liui n. sp. has a protoconch with 1 keel from second whorl and 3 keels on the last 1 /2 whorl and spiral cords flattened in axial interspaces, giving the shell, at least the axial interspaces, a smooth outline. In addition, A. liui n. sp. differs from A. hastilis in the spiral sculpture pattern and in having larger white knobs on the axial ribs. The new species can be distinguished from A. varicosus by its smaller size (height 14.8— 16.5 mm v.v. 25—30 mm) and by larger white knobs on the axial ribs. Antillophos liui n. sp. differs from A. idyllium in having a protoconch with 3 keels rather than 1 on last whorl, and in wider spaced axial ribs. Antillophos liui n. sp. also resembles A. durianoides Fraussen & Poppe, 2005 and A. monsecourorum Fraussen & Poppe, 2005 in having conspicuous knobs on the axial ribs. Antillophos durianoides differs from A. liui n. sp. in its bullet-like shape and cancellate sculpture. It can be distinguished from A monsecourorum by its constricted rather than tabulate suture and smooth rather than serrate spiral cords.
