Psilaxis krebsii (Morch, 1875) Smooth Sundial
Distribution: North Carolina, Florida, Texas; Brazil; Bermuda. Size: 14 mm
Description: Color creamish with brownish narrow bands on teleoconch; shape wide and conic; sculpture of spiral cords with strongest cord above the suture, another cord below that, and a thin cord below both; spire with first stage smoothish, second stage with squarish beads at suture of whorl; base rounded with a beaded minor and plicate major cord on umbilical wall; umbilicus wide and deep.
Habitat: On sandy bottoms at depths from 9 to 115 m (30 to 380 ft). Remarks: Alive in deeper water from 90 to 100 m (297 to 330 ft). See Warmke and Abbott (1961); Jong and Coomans (1988).
