Shell 52.0 mm in length, fusiform-elongate and slightly cylindrical, teleoconch of 7-9 whorls, protoconch of ca. 3.5 smooth, glassy, milky-white embryonic whorls. Sculptured with moderately wide-spaced and elevated spiral cords which number 3-5 main cords on the penultimate whorl and 10-15 on the body whorl; the interspaces are fairly broad in adult specimens and contain from 2-8 spiral rows of minute granules and occasionally 1-2 intermediate central spiral threads; the axial sculpture consists of deep, short axial grooves which climb the wall of the main spiral cords but do not override these. In an atypical individual, the primary and secondary spiral cords were almost of the same size. Aperture shorter or longer than the spire, smooth within, outer lip thickened in adults and crimped, columella with a narrow callus and 3-5 strong folds, siphonal fasciole with 5-8 strong or weak oblique cords. Variable in color, either uniformly cream, fawn or light to dark brown, some individuals paling towards sutures, and occasionally with a broad, brown central band on body whorl. Periostracum is thin and brown. The radula is of the Neocancilla pattern.

Range - From the Red Sea and the Persian Gulf to the Tuamotu Archipelago. In sand, soft mud, gravel and coral rubble, 0-119 m. The species is moderately frequent in dredgings, and smaller, mature individuals with deep axial grooves are usually found in deeper water. Adult specimens are easily recognized by the broad interspaces with a granulose net-like sculpture.
