The shell is large for the genus (maximum length 25 mm) and broadly fusiform. The spire is moderately high, consisting of one and one-half nuclear whorls and five or six angulate postnuclear whorls. The suture is impressed. The body whorl is moderately large and fusoid. The aperture is ovate, with a broad, shallow anal sulcus. The outer apertural lip is flattened above the shoulder margin, erect below it, and undulate at its margin; the inner surface of the outer lip is lirate. The columellar lip is adherent above, erect below. The siphonal canal is broad, short, narrowly open, and weakly recurved at its tip.
The body whorl bears five or six briefly frondose varices. Intervarical axial sculpture consists entirely of fine scabrous lamellae. Spiral sculpture consists of seven medially grooved major cords, five on the body and two on the canal. Intercalary cords of varying strengths alternate with these, except in the area between the body and the canal, where three or four consecutive minor cords are found. Where the cords intersect the varices, frondose, open spines are developed. Spines arising from major cords are clorsally recurved and diminish in strength anteriorly; spines arising from minor cords arc generally bent ventrally.
Shell color is white to pale pink, with the tips of the foliated spines brown. A fine frosting of intritacalx is apparent in fresh specimens. The aperture is deep red-pink, most strongly on the columella.
