Popis

Diagnosis: Shell roughly diamond shaped, whorls convex with angular projections at periphery, siphonal canal moderately short and open. Base colour cream with reddish-brown spiral dashes and bands, rarely reddish-brown with cream base and apex. Shell length about 17mm.
Description: Outline of shell roughly diamond shaped, w/l 0.46, whorls convex but angular at periphery, siphonal canal relatively short and open, shoulder slope wide. Protoconch dome shaped and 0.67mm in diameter. Sculpture consists of axial ribs angled at both ends and crossed by weak spiral threads. Interstical area between threads with weak axial striae. Axial ribs do not extended to sutures thereby creating a wide shoulder slope. Body whorl with about 10 axial ribs and 22 spiral threads (excluding siphonal canal). Lip with conspicuous spiral ridges inside, columella smooth except for 1 to 2 weak basal folds, only visible in adult specimens. Colour cream with spiral rows of reddish-brown dashes and bands, rarely reddish-brown with cream apex and base. Shell length ranges 15 - 19mm.

Možné záměny

This species is tentatively placed, due to its morphological similarities, in the genus Microcolus with one representative from Australia. In both species, a characteristic angular coronation is present on either end of each rib. It seems fairly common off northern KZN, most specimens obtained are ex pisce.

Rozšíření

South-Africa: Off Shelly Beach to off Richards Bay at a depth of 50 - 100 meters. Rare in the southern part of its range, but fairly common off Richards Bay where it has often been found in the gut of fish (Chrysoblephus puniceus).
