Whorls flat-sided, sometimes concave, periphery sharply keeled in juveniles becoming subangulate in adults; umbilicus closed (southern part of the range) or narrowly open (Ningaloo Marine Park); with five weakly beaded spiral cords on the sides of each whorl, plus a double rib at the periphery and about six spiral cords and intermediary threads on the base. Pale fawn with tan, reddish or greenish oblique-axial rays, and flecked with tiny red or tan spots. 2 cm high.

Most Shark Bay shells are imperforate although some (including the type) have a tiny open umbilicus. Further north the majority are narrowly umbilicate and the shells tend to be more depressed and peripherally rounded.

Western Australia. From Fremantle to West Kimberley. Abundant on rocky shores and shelly or stony substrates in seagrass beds. In Roebuck Bay it may be found on shelly rubble on the mud flats. The type specimen is from Shark Bay.
