This shell should be easily recognized by its dark or greenish brown colour, close radiating sculpture, and the characteristic apical white patch so evident in worn examples. It is found associated with Patella peroni Blainville in the sublittoral fringe, on open rock platforms amongst the holdfasts of Durvillea potatorum. This species is hardly ever taken alive because of the difficulty of reaching its habitat and because when eroded it can easily be mistaken for other species and is therefore not collected.
