Description

Shell conical, without marginal slit, apical hole or internal partition; apex a little anterior to the mid-point; surface with many fine radial ridges crossing concentric lines; yellowish grey. Animal without pallial gills or visible eyes. The shell is like a miniature Patella shell in shape but is much smoother. The posterior sloping profile of the cone is usually convex, the lateral and anterior profiles rather straight. The aperture is broadly oval, narrower anteriorly than posteriorly, bluntly rounded at each end, the sides nearly straight, the margin not much affected by the ends of the ridges. The apex is usually eroded. Up to 8-9mm long, 6-7 mm broad, 3-4 mm high.
The animal is like a small patellid limpet. Though it lacks visible eyes unpigmented ones are present. It is white.

It is never intertidal and at the latitude of the British Isles is usually found at depths of 6 m downwards on rocky and gravelly bottoms. It is a detritivore. Lepeta caeca has been reported from Jan-Mayen , Spitzbergen, Norway, Iceland, Greenland, and. from the Canadian Archipelago to Newfoundland and Cape Cod (Thorson, 1944). It has been taken from Point Barrow west and south to Captain's Harbor in the Aleutians. The Alaskan localities are now.
