Comparison:
Afer Conrad 1858 (type species: "Fusus afer (Lamarck)" by original designation = Murex afer Gmelin, 1791 (type locality: "Habitat ad Senegal")) has an almost identical radula and looks quite similar in shape and pattern but differs in having a much larger, bulbous protoconch, a longer siphonal canal and an outer lip that usually has more accentuated internal lirae. This genus seems to be endemic to the West African coastline without any record from the Cape Verde Archipelago.
Euthriostoma Marche-Marchard & Brebion, 1977 (type species: Euthriostoma gliberti Marche-Marchard & Brebion, 1977, by original designation) differs in having a small protoconch. The shells are easily recognized by the large, heavy, white shells with high spire. Until present no Euthriostoma species is recorded offshore the Cape Verde Archipelago.
Buccinulum Deshayes, 1830 (type species: "Buccinum lineatus Chemnitz" = Murex lineotus Gmelin, 1791, subsequent designation by Iredale (1921: 208) = Buccin linea Martyn, 1784 as accepted by ICZN Opinion 479 (ICZN, 1957) forms an extensive radiation off New Zealand and Australia comprising shells that look much similar to Euthrio but that differ in the shape of the central radular tooth (a somewhat broader, less triangular base with rounded margins). We have to keep in mind that, when further study may conclude that the New Zealand Buccinulum radiation is congeneric with Euthrio and its radiation off the Cape Verde Islands, then the name Buccinulum has priority over Euthrio. Radulae of Euthrio and/or Buccinulum species are figured and discussed in detail by Shuto (1978: fig. 2), Cookem(1917, fig. 1-2,4-7) and Powell (1929: fig. 83-99). For radulae of Euthria species from the Cape Verde Islands we refer to Rolan (1987: 305, pl. 1, fig. 1-6, with also the radula of E. cornea for comparison: fig. 7) and Rolan & Monteiro (2007: fig. 12, 23, 29, 37, 38-42).
