Shell comparatively large, grey white (? faded), elongate. Protoconch large, of two smooth whorls, the nucleus small and oblique, the next whorl inflated, the protoconch terminated by a distinct sinuous varix, beyond which adult sculpture begins as a double spiral keel. Mature whorls six, angled at the periphery, slightly excavate above, nearly straight below, base not excavate. Sculpture predominantly spiral, the axial ribs very weak, rounded, about 13 to the whorl. The spiral sculpture consists of about eight closely packed threads above the periphery and of coarser cords alternating in strength below, becoming even on the base, and persisting to the tip of the columella. Microscopically minute axial threads appear between the spiral threads, more noticeable above the periphery and on the base. Aperture very short, less than one-third of the total length, pyriform, restricted anteriorly. Outer margin inflected, traces of plications within the aperture, the sinus high and subsutural, rounded, not very deep, its inner margin thin and raised, arched above the suture. Inner margin straight and flattened, bordered on the columella by a defined ridge, with a faint trace of plications developing. Canal narrow, moderately long, its anterior margin sinuate, slightly twisted. Length 14 mm., width 4 mm., aperture 4.5 mm.

This is a distinctive species, much more attenuate than such as denseplicata, with still weaker axials, coarser spirals, distinctive aperture and a varix terminating the protoconch. The Twofold Bay specimen has the axial ribs slightly stronger than the type. Another specimen is coloured grey brown with a chocolate base.
