Description

Shell of medium size, biconical, white with small patches of ochre below the suture, protoconch of 2 ½ whorls, the nucleus small, the others rounded, smooth. Mature whorls four, rounded, the spire short, body whorl very long and greatly swollen on the shoulder, tapering anteriorly. Sculpture of narrow, widely spaced axial riblets, about 16 to the whorl, persistent but faint on the base. Spiral sculpture of faint threads, becoming closer towards the base, often hardly distinguishable. Aperture long, outer margin rounded and thin, without a varix (the type may not be quite mature), sinus small and shallow, subsutural, canal wide and open. Inner margin nearly straight and smooth, columella long and tapering. Width 4.5 mm., aperture 6.5 mm.

Interchangeable taxa

The absence of a varix and the small shallow sinus may be due to the type being quite mature. The contour of this species separates it from the other related forms, but the swelling of the body whorl on the shoulder should alone make its future recognition sure.

Distribution

Australia. New South Wales. 30-35 fathoms off Port Stephens.
