Description

Obliquely oval, white, with fine commarginal striae, inner shell layer with radially ribbed structure that shows on surface as fine radial striations; interior margin minutely denticulate. North Carolina, Florida Keys, West Indies, Gulf of Mexico. Length 3 mm.

Ennucula aegeensis (Forbes, 1844) Distribution: North Carolina to West Indies, Texas; Brazil. Size: 6 to 8 mm (¼ to ½ in). Aegean Nut Clam Description: Color translucent white; shape somewhat ovate; sculpture smoothish with fine commarginal threads; ventral margin rounded and minutely crenulate interiorly; hinge with narrow, forwardly inclined chondrophore; teeth on either side of umbo; umbo obscure, does not appear to overlap chondrophore. Habitat: Along entire Texas coast; infaunal; in sandy mud at depths from shoreline to 198 m (660 ft). Depth range 0 to 845 m (2772 ft). Remarks: See Odé (1980b); Mikkelsen and Bieler (2008).
