Description

Gregorioscala resembles species in the genus Opalia because the surface of the shell is pitted, the outer lip is thickened and a basal ridge is present. The only real difference between the genera is that species in the genus Gregorioscala are found in deeper water. This particular species has been found at a depth of 1100-1300m in the Azores and reaches a maximum size of about 33mm. There are about 10-11 solid, heavy teleoconch whorls with thick low costae which are occasionally thickened into varices. A basal ridge is present and the outer lip is very thickened. The aperture is round.
