Description

Caecum johnsoni Winkley, 1908 Johnson's Caecum
Distribution: Massachusetts, North Carolina; Texas. Size: 5 mm
Description: Color may be translucent white or brown; shape curved and tubular, toothlike or tusklike; sculpture appears smooth, but at high magnification fine spiral growth lines are visible; mucro present as knob on side of hemisphere; aperture without varix, smooth.
Habitat: In beach drift along Texas coast. Also in bays, oyster reefs, and offshore reefs and banks from shoreline to a depth of 75 m (246 ft). Alive at FGB. Remarks: Sometimes mistaken for C. glabrum Montagu, 1803, a European spe¬cies. Offshore specimens may be smaller. See Ode (1988b).
