Parvanachis ostreicola (Sowerby III, 1882) Oyster Dovesnail
Distribution: Virginia to Florida to Texas; Uruguay; Bermuda. Size: 5 to 6 mm .
Description: Color from tannish-brown to purplish-black; shape ovate, obèse; sculpture of convex whorls with axial cords, crossed by spiral ribs; a somewhat unsculptured surface on abapertural side of body whorl; aperture slender to broad; apertural lip thickened, interiorly denticulate; columella straight, slightly denticulate. Habitat: In beach drift; bays to inlets in oyster shells or under hard substrates. Remarks: Species listed as Anachis obesa in Andrews (1977) is probably this species. Shares the same habitat as A. obesa. Differs from A. obesa, which has a stronger spiral structure and a uniform color pattern with finer axial and spiral sculpture.
