Nassarius acutus (Say, 1822) Sharp Nassa
Distribution: Florida to Texas. Size: 15 mm (0,6 inch).
Description: Color dull yellowish-white with suffusions of darker orangish-brown and broken, brown narrow bands below the suture, protoconch orangish-brown; shape elongate-conic; sculpture of axial and spiral cords producing beaded nodules where they intersect with elongate beads, most pronounced above body whorl; inner spaces between cords smooth; nuclear whorl smooth; aperture ovate with a short anal notch; siphonal canal abrupt.
Habitat: Sandy bottoms from below tide line to a depth of about 110 m (360 ft). Remarks: Known as a carrion feeder but also feeds on molluscan egg cases.
