Vexillum histrio (Reeve, 1844) Harlequin Miter
Distribution: Texas, Florida; Bahamas; Bermuda. Size: 12 to 28 mm
Description: Color of teleoconch whorls with wide band of yellowish-orange centrally and chocolate bands above and below the sutures, with a white band above the lower chocolate band, body whorl with a white and chocolate band at periphery, chocolate bands on base; shape ovate-conic; sculpture of strong, rounded cords with spiral riblets in inner spaces and spiral cords on base; aperture narrow; columella with 4 strong plicae. Habitat: Collected on Stetson Bank at a depth of about 36 m (120 ft). Depth range 0 to 275 m (902 ft).
Remarks: Listed as V. epiphaneum (Rehder, 1943) in Hyde (2000). First record for Texas, from Stetson Bank. See Redfern (2001).
