Description

Epitonium eboreum: Because this species has been found intertidally from southern Zululand to eastern Cape Province, South Africa, it is best considered to be a South African endemic species. It attains a maximum size of about 10mm. There are about 7 teleoconch whorls with about 8-10 thick and relatively low costae per whorl. The costae are not peaked but instead are rounded and are more or less discontinuous. The suture is shallow. The color ranges from white to yellowish white. The costae are always white. The spaces between the costae are smooth and polished. There are 3.5 protoconch whorls. The operculum is light brown.

Cirsotrema (Discoscala) edgari (de Boury, 1912) (Fig. 249 & 250) This whitish species is found from the China Sea south to the Philippines. It reaches a maximum size of over 50mm. There are about 10 whorls with approximately 30 ruffled costae per whorl which do not cross the strong basal disk as well as about 3 strong spiral cords and numerous fine spiral threads per whorl. The costae are peaked below the shoulder and the aperture is oval.
