Epitonium (Labeoscala) thelcterium (Melvill & Standen, 1903) (Fig. 207) Like E. rissolnaeforme, this species has a strongly thickened outer lip. While this species was described based on material found in deep water in the Persian Gulf, it has been found in shallow water in the Maldives. It reaches a maximum size of about 4mm. It is white with about 15 thin crect costae which are not reflected. There are about & spiral threads per whorl. The suture and umbilicus are closed. The aperture is oval. This species can be distinguished from E. rissoinaeforme by the stronger costae and by the teleoconch whorls which are less swollen than the former species. The spiral sculpture on E. thelcterium is also stronger.
