Description

5mm. High spired, slender, glossy, smooth, with protoconch of about 3.5 whorls. Spire whorls have strong oblique, reflected ribs (about 10 on last whorl) joined at sutures and angled just above centre of whorl. No umbilicus. All white. Habitat: deep water. Distribution: Gulf of Oman.

Epitonium (Lamelliscala) goniophorum (Melvill & Standen, 1903) (Fig. 208) E. gontophorum has been found in deep water in the Gulf of Oman. It reaches a maximum size of approximately 5mm. There are about 5 loosely coiled teleoconch whorls and at least 2 protoconch whorls. It has approximately 9-10 costae which are relatively hroad and slightly angled below the suture. The sutures and umbilicus are narrowly open. The aperture is oval. While this species is similar to E. bouryi (Jousseaume, 1912), it has a smaller number of costae which are more angled and less wing-like.
