Description

6.5mm. High spired, with pointed, glassy protoconch of about 3 whorls. Thin, sharp-edged, oblique, slightly curved ribs (about 18-20 on last whorl) interleaving at sutures; smooth between ribs. No umbilicus. White. Habitat: offshore. Distribution: Northern Persian Gulf. Iran.

Epitonium (Hyaloscala) amathusium (Melvill & Standen, 1903) (Fig. 202) This species has been found in the Gulf of Oman a depth of 7 fathoms and reaches a maximum size of about 7mm. It is a relatively broad, heavy species with about 6 convex teleoconch whorls. There are about 20 thin, erect costae per whorl. The costae, which are not peaked, are continuous and run up the shell. There are no spiral threads between the costae. The suture and the umbilicus are closed. I he aperture is oval. While this species is similar to E. melior, it has more costae per whorl.
