Description

Epitonium (Nitidiscala) agitabilis (Jousseaume, 1912) (Fig. 211) This species ranges from the Red Sea to Djibouti and possibly east to the Maldives. The maximum height is about 9mm. It has about 7 teleoconch whorls with 9 erect costae per whorl. The costae are not peaked. While Sally Kaicher's Shell Cards refer to the presence of fine spiral lines between the costae, they can be very difficult to see on beach wom specimens. The sutures are almost closed or at most narrowly open. E. agitabilis should be compared with E. vaillanti which is discussed below.
