Shell to 15 mm. Equivalve. Very slightly aequilateral. Outline subrectangular; anterior margin rounded; posterior margin straight; median sinus slight. Dorsal area lat. Ligament in a small triangle not covering the whole area. Sculpture of scabrous ribs, those on the posterior area broad and most prominent. Habitat: Attached to rocks and coral debris. Distribution: Throughout the Red Sea.

Striarca erythraea (Issel, 1869) Endemic
4.5-13 mm. -> Very fine sculpture of riblets and concentric rings. Ligament lines in the dorsal area are vertical, not in chevrons. (11 mm) Distribution: Locally common, northern Gulf of Suez.
Notes: Some specimens are quite tumid and others are not. Much finer sculpture than Acar plicata.
