Distribution

Lissarca notorcadensis appears to extend right around the antarctic continent through the Antarctic Peninsula to the South Shetlands, South Orkneys and South Sandwich Islands to South Georgia in depths of 18-1120 m. Within the Ross Sea the known bathymetric range is 73-870 m. Powell (1951: 78) doubtfully identified a single specimen from between Patagonia and the Falkland Islands in 148 m as L. notorcadensis. There do not appear to be any other records from the Magellanic region. Its possible occurrence at Kerguelen Island does not seem to have been documented. Lissarca nolorcadensis is a characteristic antarctic bivalve, living attached to echinoid spines, hydroids, bryozoa etc., by a byssus. Like other species of Lissarca, this species broods its young.
