Description

Shell elongate, subequilateral, inflated posteriorly; anterior end sharply rounded; posterior end produced, broadly rounded to obliquely truncate. Umbones more anteriorly placed than in P. arctica, the shell is more inflated, and the resilifer is larger. Sculpture absent except for irregular commarginal growth lines. Periostracum light to dark brown, smooth, shiny. Length to 18 mm.
Schilcyko (1985) places this species in Portlandia on the basis of its subumbonal, rounded internal resilium and its open inhalant siphon; Waren (1989) places this species in Yoldiella without reference to Schileyko. The relationship of this species to the Panamic P. dicella (Dall, 1908b) merits further investigation.
Panarctic; Beaufort Sea (71°N) [LACM] and Chukchi Sea (67°N) [USNM], south into the Bering Sea (64°N) [USNM]; Greenland, Iceland, and northern Norway; in
50 - 450 m.
