Description

HAIRY PHILOBRYA Bryophila setosa Carpenter, 1864b: Shell small, trigonal, with an oily sheen. Sculpture of irregular commarginal striae. Periostracum thin, adherent, with commarginal lamellae, and radially arranged setae. Prodissoconch small, clearly demarcated. Length to 8 mm. Montagu Island, Alaska (60.2°N) [USNM], south to Punta Santa Elena, Costa Rica (10.9°N) [LACM], intertidal zone to 40 m. Additional study is needed in the southern geographic range of this species. It is possible that more than one species is present in that region.
