Description

Original Description: "Shell sub-orbicular, slender and smooth; margin acute and entire.... Shell about an inch and a quarter long, and the breadth rather exceeds the length; the colour is pale brown, with darker somewhat triangular rays, and mottled with white towards the margin." (fide Dillwyn, 1817)
Additional Description: Shell compressed, orbicular, equivalve and equilateral; left valve somewhat more convex than right. Both valves are either smooth or with fine radial striae. Auricles small and subequal. Byssal notch deep with active ctenolium. Coloration variable, left valve from brown to dark brown and either uniform or with white maculations, right valve either paler in color or white. Size: Normal adult size range is 25 to 40 mm.

Distribution

From Senegal to Angola, West Africa.
Habitat: Littoral zone, on sandy bottoms.
