Description

Spondylus candidus Lamarck, 1819
22-43 mm. -» Bright coral color. Specimens range from all coral to white with just a little bit of coral or any combination in between. Few to many raised ribs, fine radial threads in between, very few spines. Shape unusually constant with the ventral margin longer than the dorsal. (30 mm)
Distribution: Uncommon, most likely to be found across South Sinai to Hurghada and south to just north of Marsa Alam.

Spondylus candidus Lamarck, 1819 SH: 9cm Medium or large-sized, comparatively broad, attaching to flat object by nearly whole surface of right valve. Left valve weakly convex, marked with numerous radial riblets of irregular strength. Marginal area of inner surface tinged with brownish orange. Spines on ribs are sparse and small. Kii Peninsula, southward to tropical Indo-West Pacific, rocky bottom and wharf, within 10m deep.
