This species is similar to Hemilepton nitidum (Turton, 1822) as far as its outline is concerned, but. besides having really bigger sizes, its valves arc much more convex and its hinge is different.Recently (see bibliography) there were made studies on the prodissoconch morphology of this species that, in the Mediterranean specimens, reaches a bigger size than in the Atlantic ones. The prodissoconch sculpture is made of small round depressions broader towards the ventral margin.

Habitat: this small bivalve can be found into cavities or holes of hard or soft substratum, in a coralligenous habitat and on detrital mud.
Distribution: common all over the Mediterranean, in remarkable depths too. Also Atlantic.
