Type Locality: Not listed in description, but "Ambonia" is on labels, per Dijkstra (1998). Original Description: "T. sub-ovali, obliqua, postice expansa, compressa, crassa; auriculis parvis, obtusis; costis 23, crassis, rotundatis, laevibus, interstitiis angustis; colore prope umbones roseo, prope margines, pallide luteo, fasciis rubris, praeruptis, angulatis variegato. Long. 2.40; lat. 0.65.; alt. 2.60.; poll." (fide G. B. Sowerby II, 1842)
Additional Description: Shell is solid, equivalve, obliquely oval and compressed; both valves with 20 to 24 rounded smooth, thick ribs. Auricles small and equal. Coloration is straw to pink near the umbo with interrupted angular bands of bright orange to reddish orange on a cream background. Size: Normal adult size range is 50 to 60 mm. Distribution: From the west and southwest areas of the Pacific Ocean.
Habitat: Littoral zone, under or near rocks, coral boulders or coral rubble on sandy bottoms.
Remarks: Similar in appearance to A lamberti, but has almost half the number of ribs.
