Original Description: "P. testa rotundata, flabellatim, plicata, alba, intus rubra; radiis quindecim convexis; interstitiis transverse striatis." {fide Lamarck, 1819)
Additional Description: Shell is equilateral and moderately compressed; right valve slightly more convex than the left, both valves carry 18 to 20 rounded radial ribs, the entire surface covered with fine concentric lamellae; auricles equal. Color of the left valve brownish pink on lighter background, right valve white.
Size: Normal adult size range is 80 to 100 mm. Distribution: Found throughout the northern region of Australia to Indonesia.
Habitat: Littoral to sublittoral zones, on muddy sand or sandy bottoms.
