Description

Type Material: Lectotype - UUZM. Type Locality: O. Indico (Indian Ocean).
Original Description: "O. testa radiis 16 obliteratis transverse membranaceo striatis, margine integerrimo." (fide Linnaeus, 1758)
Additional Description: Shell, wider than long, inequivalve, slightly inequilateral; right valve more convex than left valve, auricles subequal; both valves carry 14-18 low, broad radial ribs, which are covered with commarginal lamellae. Color very variable, brownish pink to purplish brown with maculations or streaks.
Size: Normal adult size range is 40 to 50 mm. Distribution: Found throughout the Indo-west Pacific region. Habitat: Littoral zone, on muddy, muddy sand or sandy bottoms.
Remarks: Formerly known as A. macassarensis (Chenu, 1845).
