SCHMIDT DATEMUSSEL Modiola (Lithophagus) schmidtii Schrenck, 1867: 500; Adula nipponica Habe, 1955a: 5; A. californiensis chosenica Habe and Ito, 1965: 114, er Kuroda MS. Shell elongate, with distinct central keel and brown to black periostracum; sculpture of commarginal striae. Length to 45 mm. This species differs from A. diegensis in being more elongate and cylindrical. A Japanese species that has been found in intertidal drift at Amchitka Island (51.5°N, 179.0°E) [NMC] and Umnak Island (approx. 52.9°N, 168.9°W) [LACM] in the Aleutian Islands, Alaska, in 15-20 m.
