Mitrella broderipi
Habitat: it lives under stones and in Posidonia meadows, in the circalittoral zone.
Distribution: mainly it can be found in the Western Mediterranean, relatively common in the Sea of Alboran.
Notes: species small in sizes, the smallest one of its genus. Oval stretched in outline, whorls not much convex and suture not much broad. In its adult stage the first whorls of spiral, which are obtuse, are not lost. Aperture oval, more or less stretched, external lip denticulated internally, slight folds on culumella. Siphonal canal practically missing. This species is very similar to M. bruggeni that besides having larger sizes it has a different ratio between height and diametre, such to give it a less slim aspect. Moreover this species is frequently decollate.
Chromatic pattern is quite variable: on a ground brown in colour there are either spots white in colour placed irregularly or striae vertical, sinuous. There are also known monochromatic and whitish specimens. As quoted by CLEMAM, M. hidalgoi andM diochroa have to be considered synonyms of this species. Average measures of adult specimens are around 7 mm in height.
