Description

Species in this group are restricted to deep water. They can be recognized by their large size, flat sided whorls with broad low costae and the presence of a basal disk. This species has been found in water at a minimum depth of 440m in the eastern Atlantic and the Azores. It attains a maximum size of approximately 75mm. There are about 20 costae per whorl which are broad and rounded. The approximately 14 or so teleoconch whorls are separated by a raised line at the suture. There are numerous fine spiral and axial lines between the costae which can be seen under magnification. The basal disk is flat and the costae do not continue over it. The aperture is oval.
