Description

This species ranges from the Bay of Biscay south to Mauritania and east through the Mediterranean Sea. It attains a maximum size of 22mm and is reddish brown with up to 10-12 whorls. The costae are low and narrow with an occasional thickened varix. The finely reticulated sculpture between the costae can be seen under magnification. A basal ridge is present and the costae extend over the basal ridge.
This species should be compared to A. fusca. One noticeable difference is the presence of occasional varices on A. lamyi.
Weil, A. , Brown, L. & Neville, B, 1999. The Wentletrap book - Guide to the Recent Epitoniidae of the world.
Shell elongate, fragile, with very fine axial ribs except in some parts where the labial varix persists. Dimensions: Up to 30 mm. Distribution: Deep shelf and upper bathyal zones of southern and southwestern Europe, from the Bay of Biscay to Mauritania, including the Mediterranean. [Rolan]
