DISTRIBUTION AND HABITAT. Melanoides tuberculata is a widely distributed species, known from South Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia and West Pacific Islands. It lives in fresh water, but may be found in slightly brackish waters. The species is reported to occur abundantly in tidal flats in the Gulf of Thailand (BRANDT, 1974). According to DUDGEON & YIPP (1985), Melanoides tuberculata feeds on detritus with green algae and diatoms.
