Type material: Holotype (30.7+) mm high x 24.4mm wide, deposited at Paris National Museum of Natural History, France with Registration No MNHN-IM-2000-38153.
Other material: Paratype 1 (28.8+) mm); Paratype 2 (27.7+) mm) and Paratype 3 (27.1+) mm) in Dr Thach collection. All types from type locality Type locality: Paxcon, Boloven Plateau, Champasak Province, Laos.
Habitat: along streams and in ponds.
Diagnosis: The new species is characterized by five strong, widely-spaced spiral ribs at body whorl and rounded conjunction area between parietal wall and outer lip.
Description: Shell medium-sized for the genus, elongate-ovate with usually eroded (or damaged) spire and distinct sutures. Shell width 14.1mm (average of four collected specimens). Outer surface attached by rusty-red soil, body whorl swollen with slightly rounded shoulder and an elevated rib at periphery. Sculpture consists mainly of five elevated and widely-spaced spiral ribs at body whorl, the most anterior one strongest at periphery and the most posterior one far from suture; spiral ribs crossed by weaker, oblique and more closely-spaced axial ribs. Aperture subcircular in outline and higher than wide, outer lip thick, not reflected and rounded with black inner margin, followed by red line. Parietal wall calloused, well defined and separated from remaining shell, withrounded conjunction area with outer lip. Columella curved, umbilicus closed. Operculum corneous, brown, thick, concave at interior side with broad margins; exterior side of operculum sculptured with many concentric ribs around the nucleus. Color black with bluish aperture and columella.

The new species differs mainly from Filopaludina martensi martensi (Frauenfeld, 1865) in following characters: (1) area of conjunction between parietal wall and outer lip not pointed, (2) aperture higher than wide, not wider than high, (3) columella and outer lip not white, (4) spiral and axial ribs stronger, (5) peripheral keel broader, (6) different localities, Boloven Plateau of Laos versus Lao Kai of Vietnam.
Two additional differences: (1) columella parallel to shell axis, not curved at posterior part, (2) big variation of shell width between penultimate and last and whorl.
