Description

Type material: Holotype (25.3mm wide x 17.6mm high) deposited at Paris National Museum of Natural History, France with Registration No MNHN-IM-2000-38147. Other material: Paratype 1 (23.5mm) and Paratype 2 (23.3mm) in Dr Thach collection. All types from type locality.
Type locality: Hills to the north of Bengkulu city, Sumatra Island, Indonesia. Habitat: Crop plantations.
Diagnosis: The new species is characterized by robust shell, double outer lip, sunken apex, many pits of cancellate sculpture at lateral side, different colors of upper and lower sides.
Description: Shell medium-sized for the genus (with height range (23.3-25.3mm), slightly turbinate, solid and thick. Spire very low and nearly flat, sutures channeled. Shell width 69.3% of height. Body whorl inflated with rounded periphery. Sculpture consists mainly of many closely-spaced axial ribets with many small pits of cancellate sculpture at lateral side of body whorl. Ventral side strongly convex and ornamented at the middle with a broad, intermittent spiral band. Aperture rounded, oblique, tilted rightward and occupying 53.3% of shell height, 73.3% of shell width, outer lip double, broad, thick and reflected with a well visible groove at the conjunction with columella. Parietal wall regularly curved and well defined. Columella slightly curved and nearly parallel to shell axis, umbilicus widely open and deep, not much covered by columella. Background chocolate-colored at upper side and white at lower one with white band along suture of body whorl.

Interchangeable taxa

Comparison: The new species differs mainly from Pterocyclos celebensis (Smith, 1896) in many characters: (1) aperture not rounded at frontal view, (2) spire whorls higher and more inflated, (3) outer lip double, (4) sutures much shallower, (5) apex deeply sunken, (6) radial lines at penultimate whorl longer, undulate and not intermittent, (7) different color, (8) different localities.
